Music - Elbow

Am I the last person to hear about the band Elbow?  It looks like they have been around since about 2001, but I don't know that I've ever heard of them! I ran across SPIN's "25 best albums of 2011... so far" and Elbow's, Let's Build a Rocket Boys! is among those listed.  I thought I'd share one of it's featured songs.  See for yourself if it should be one of the top 25 albums of 2011...so far!

Songs For The Soul

Source

I have been making almost everything else a priority over blogging lately.  Things have been very busy, but overall good! Being a rainy Wednesday, I thought I would post some soulful mellow songs that I just cannot stop listening to right now.  I always enjoy finding new songs, new takes on old songs, or old songs I haven't listened to for a long time! I hope you enjoy! What song do you have stuck on repeat?

Adele "21"

Adele's new album "21" is slated to release February 22, 2011.  The first single "Rolling in the Deep" is already out.  Maybe you've heard it?  If you haven't, or just want to listen to it over and over again (like me) you can watch the video below!   "Rolling in the Deep" has the old Adele sound that won over so many with a little bit of the South thrown in the mix.  The single is somewhat of a revenge love song with the powerful lyrics, "We could have had it all, Rolling in the Deep, You had my heart inside you hands, and you played it to the beat."  The music video carries this message throughout with the beat of the music visible in the water glasses, the breaking dishes, dancing and more. She told PEOPLE "I was so angry that I finished "Rolling in the Deep" in about an hour." Only a few more days until the rest of the album is out!

Sigh No More

Mumford & Sons has made some big first impressions in the music world.  It's hard to believe the band recently got together in December 2007 and began selling out shows 6 months later!  Their common purpose: "to make music that matters, without taking themselves too seriously." These four young men sing with so much heart, soul and passion.  Before downloading their album a few months ago, I did a little research by reading some reviews.  The first one read, "this album saved my life." After that, I didn't have to read much more and clicked "buy".  Sigh No More contains some of the most powerful, moving lyrics that truly resonate with me.  What do you think?

Purity Ring - Ungirthed

I was exploring some new music and ran across this new video by Purity Ring called Ungirthed.  The video is incredibly unique with frames chopped up and pieced back together (it has some NSFW images....beware! but, it is art nonetheless as the singer, Megan James, bares it all).  You can take a peak at the video here. Pitchfork media is loving this new track and so am I!

"Leave all your love and your longing behind, you can't carry it with you if you want to survive"

Florence + The Machine
Tonight I get to see this lovely lady with her HUGE voice!  I bought my tickets for Florence + The Machine the day they went on sale in July and have been anxiously waiting for this day to get here.  Her music gives me goosebumps and I hope that seeing her live will do the same! The Fox Theater is a great venue.  The last time I was there I saw Hot Chip and The xx (a great concert!).
